Fax 270-383-2831 www.reidwaltersfh.com Reid-Walters Funeral Home is the successor of Reid Funeral Home, which was established in 1928 by Lewis H. Reid. Its original location was on East Main Street in Earlington, KY, on the ground floor of the Victory Building. The business was later moved to another location on East Main Street, and finally moved to its current location on East Farren Avenue. In 1933, Hubert Reid, the son of Lewis H. Reid, joined the firm as the general manager Lewis Elmo Reid, also the son of Lewis H. Reid, managed the Mortons Gap branch of Reid Funeral Home for a number of years, as well as assisting Lewis H. and Hubert in Earlington In 1958, Lewis H. Reid died, and Hubert, Elmo, and Hubert's wife, Edith Price Reid, continued operation of the business until 1969. In addition, to his working at Reid Funeral home, Hubert Reid had served as Coroner in Hopkins County from 1958 1966. He also served as Hopkins County Judge from 1966-1970. When Elmo Reid went into semi- retirement in 1969, John L. Walters purchased his third of the partnership, the business then became Reid Funeral Home, Inc. John L. and his wife Patricia H. Walters, purchased the majority of stock from Hubert and Edith Reid, in 1972, and the business was renamed Reid-Walters Funeral Home, Inc. Patrick S. Walters, John's brother, came to work in the firm in 1974, and continued to work at Reid-Walters Funeral Home until the latter part of 2013. In the 1970's, Mrs. Betty Brooks began working at Reid-Walters, and continued to work at the funeral home until her retirement in 2012; also in the 1970's, Dennis Mayfield began working at Reid-Walters Hubert Reid suffered a debilitating stroke in 1976, which forced his retirement Edith Price Reid continued to participate in the business until her retirement in 1984 In 1985, John L. Walters was elected Coroner of Hopkins County, and remained in that position until 2006. Chip Tomblinson purchased Reid-Walters Funeral Home in January of 2005, upon the retirement of John L. Walters. In February of 2014, Jamie Daniel, a local funeral director with nearly 30 years of experience, and his wife, Robin, purchased the funeral home. Dennis Mayfield, who is the current Hopkins County Coroner, has over 30 years of experience, is also a funeral director at Reid-Walters Funeral Home.
